I want to take a moment to expand upon who my content is for and who it is not for.
Hi, I’m Sierra Morris, the human component of Chuck and the Chicks.
I’m an artist and educator living on a micro homestead in the Midwest.
After an unexpected post pandemic career change, I discovered homesteading and the joy that is backyard chicken keeping.
Caring for backyard chickens revealed my life’s purpose to me, which is to spread the peace, joy, and love of backyard chickens. Having lived below the poverty level for most of my adult life, backyard chicken keeping and homesteading have provided me and my family with the food security and peace of mind that had evaded us for so many years.
Speaking of my personal journey, having backyard chickens was a pivotal part of healing my soul. I truly believe backyard chickens are a gateway to a better world, a better society, and an improved quality of life for all, animals and humans. Chickens open doors of learning and love.
I’m a deeply flawed individual in many ways. I’m not the perfect chicken owner; I don’t think perfection is possible when it comes to farming on any level. However, I think there is a lifelong journey of learning and discovery that awaits anyone willing to embrace any form of earth aligned practices which allow you to live closer to the cycles of natural seasons and eat healthier food. Even if the only nature you have access to is a porch, small backyard, or window sill, the world of homesteading is waiting for you to discover it.
The world of backyard chickens encompasses many groups of people. Our differences disappear and we are brought together by the love of our birds and the belief that an improved quality of life for them allows them to provide us with a better quality outcome, whatever that may be. People keep chickens for meat, eggs, companionship, or show birds, but regardless of their purpose backyard chicken owners agree that chickens have improved their lives. For many of us, keeping chickens quickly becomes a passion and an all consuming lifestyle.
I create my content for new backyard chicken owners, seasoned chicken owners who just enjoy watching other people’s flocks, animal enthusiasts, and people looking to better align themselves with the natural cycles of the planet we live on.
I don’t create my content for anyone who has ever said, “It’s just a chicken.” Because, no, they aren’t just chickens. They are gateways to food security and hope. They are amazing and intelligent birds with complex social structures. They are capable of learning, empathy, and some of the funniest antics ever. They are companions, pets, food sources, and an integral part of healthy farms, families, communities, and backyards everywhere.
My content is for people who want to take exceptionally good care of their chickens to achieve the best outcomes possible. For people who know going above and beyond for their animals has untold rewards. I make content for people who know the extra effort for your flock is always worth it.
My content is not for people who want to do the minimum and think that it is, “Just a chicken.”
I aspire to create helpful educational and entertaining content about backyard chickens, homesteading, and eventually additional educational resources for new homesteaders and backyard chicken owners. I want to add my voice to the chorus of other homesteaders and backyard chicken owners making the world a better place one lovingly cultivated egg at a time.
I hope this helps clarify some things. Thanks so much for listening.
I hope you have a wonderful day ahead.
