Having backyard chickens is an excuse to be out in nature every single day. Rain or shine, cold or blistering hot, chicken care needs to be done and your feathered darlings will need released from their overnight protection and let back out into the world. It is one of the highlights of my day, every day, to watch them descend the ramp in a new order each day with enthusiasm and vigor. I fill their run and feeders with snacks and extra treats overnight and I watch with glee as they run to the snack spots and see what joy is waiting for them. Every day I’m out in the fresh air, sunshine (when it’s sunny), and backyard soaking up the thriving life all around me, even on our little homestead. When travel isn’t possible there is always a world of adventure waiting for me in the backyard with my chickens. My chickens get me outside every day and I know I am healthier for it.
