Giving up on perfection

I have learned so much in the two years I have had a backyard flock but I realized very quickly I could spend a lifetime learning about these birds and still not know everything. I had to come to terms with the idea I would never be the perfect chicken owner. Despite years of preparation, creating infrastructure, reading, growing, and improving, there would still always be more learn and do. Keeping a balanced, flourishing flock is a journey like so many others that requires adjustment and education along the way. There are also elements of their lives I can’t control. Even in my own backyard, thoughtless neighbors, predation, and weather extremes are all things I must contend with as a flock keeper. Each day will bring with it its own unique joys and challenges. I will continue to improve my own base of knowledge, add to my toolkit, and share with the wonderful community that is backyard chicken keepers.
